Exfoliators manufacture 5 grades of Vermiculite from two ore sources. The Palabora mine in South Africa and AVI's mine in Australia. Both Vermiculite ores have unique qualities and it comes down to a personal choice by the grower or user. Vermiculite is a natural occuring mineral called hydrated phlogopite mica that once mined, graded and subjected to a furnacing process at approximately 800°c it becomes the unique product that it is. |

The sizing is personal choice by growers whom can use G2 or G3 for seed raising. Premium Vermiculite is used to top dress the trays providing good water holding capacity but more importantly good thermal insulation. Grade 3 Premium Vermiculite can also be used in potting mixes in conjunction with peat moss or other medias. Grade 4 Premium Vermiculite is used in the propagation and callusing of grape vines. Premium Vermiculite is used for all of the reasons previously explained including it will absorb up to 240% of its air dried weight in moisture providing a safe environment during transit. Vermiculite also has a cation exchange rate of 90-125 milligrams equivilents per 100 grams. |
